A variety of activities are offered to students after school. These may be provided by staff members or by volunteers from the community. While some activities are sponsored by the school or district, others are supported by outside agencies such as the Boy Scout and Girl Scout Programs, The Boys and Girls Club of Vergennes and the Vergennes Recreation Department. Though the school cannot accept responsibility for the management and supervision of programs that are not approved by the VUES Board, it does encourage and support activities which are in the best interest of its students.
Parents should be aware of the nature of a program, its supervisory structure and transportation arrangements before they permit their children to participate.
If a child is absent from school due to illness, it is not appropriate for him/her to take part in any after school activity that day.
ANWSD offers after school and summer opportunities for our students. The ANWSD operates licensed child care programs at all ANWSD elementary schools.
The ANWSD currently offers two after school opportunities to our students:
The ANWSD offers a fully licensed after school childcare program at all of our elementary schools. This program runs Monday - Friday 3pm-6pm while school is in session. We will also run on most early release days (determined by Superintendent) and during February and April Vacation weeks. Information regarding cost is available in the family handbook. Scholarships and additional discounts are available. Families that meet the eligibility requirement are encouraged to apply to the state for child care subsidy. This can cover all or a portion of the daily fee. For more information about childcare subsidy visit http://dcf.vermont.gov/benefits/ccfap or call Addison County Childcare Services at 388-4304.
The first day of the after school childcare program will be Sept. 3rd
Programs will be closed October 18, November 1, November 25-29 and December 23-January 1, January 20, January 21, March 6, March 27 and May 25.
Fusion is an enrichment based program that runs in five different “sessions” throughout the school year. Flyers go out a week or two before a new session starts. Students sign up for programs they are interested in. Enrollment is limited and on a first come, first serve basis. A 21st Century grant covers the majority of the cost of this program. A small fee is recommended, $10-$30 per session, but not required. The program typically run from 3-4:30pm and a free snack is provided. This is not intended to be a childcare program. Students should only sign up for activities that interest them. This program will be piloting at ACS and FCS this year. The program may not operate everyday at these new locations. Fusion does not operate during vacations, on inservice days or early release days. More information will be available in the fall.
